19th Century Antique Silver Star & Crescent Knife Rests

These very unusual solid silver knife rests depict a star and crescent which is the symbol of the former Ottoman Empire and began being used in the second half of the 18th century.

They are hallmarked Edinburgh, with the maker being John Hay who was active in the second half of the 19th century.

As the date mark is missing an exact year in unknown.

An engraved letter 'A' is on the star at each end of each rest, and they are in excellent condition, measuring 3" long x 1.25" high.

If your loved one has the initial 'A' these would make a delightful gift for a silver wedding anniversary.
